Mentors

ANY 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year medical student (MD or DO) in the United States.
While it is preferred for prospective mentors to be from an underrepresented group, it is not required! Learn more about what an underrepresented group is by visiting our HOME page.
Mentors typically take on 1 to 2 mentees.

Maintain regular contact throughout the quarter as schedule allows (text, email).
Advise mentees on areas of need, such as personal statement editing, application review, etc.
1 meeting per month (phone or Zoom) or as needed if contact is maintained regularly throughout the quarter.
Set goals monthly at meetings or as needed if goals are discussed via other means.
Record meetings briefly in provided Google Sheet (for volunteer hours, accountability, goal tracking).
- E.g. Meeting via phone for 5 minutes, discussed GPA/MCAT
- E.g. Met this week for total of 1 hours via text, email, etc.
Submit quarterly feedback (every 3 months).
- This will not only help us improve our program, but determine Excellence Awards! Mentees and mentors will receive a gift card and recognition on social media platforms.

Touch base once a week via text, email, phone, Zoom. etc.
Mentees are encouraged to attend workshops, career panels, or other events (topics selected by mentees!)

- Feedback forms include nominations for mentees and mentors to receive an Excellence Award! Winners will receive a gift card and recognition on our social media platforms.

Quarterly Excellence Awards!
- Based on your completed feedback forms, the Underdocs Team will choose 2 winners for Excellence Awards, 1 mentor and 1 mentee.
- Will share winners via all our media platforms!
- Prize: Gift card of your choice!

The next mentor applications will open on February 1st and close on February 29th.
Each mentee/mentor application cycle opens approximately every 3 months.
Matches for this cycle will be made in March.
